Rev. Jasmine Smart is the Head Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Troy, and Pastor for Community and Care at Kirk in the Hills where she has served since 2016. Originally from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, Jasmine first moved to Michigan to receive her BA at Calvin College in Interdisciplinary studies (Philosophy, English, and Church, Society & Ministry). After graduating from Calvin, Jasmine went straight to Princeton Theological Seminary and earned her MDiv. During that time, she served churches and the community in youth ministry, prison and psychiatric hospital chaplaincy. Jasmine and her husband Jonathan can usually be found lounging on the couch with their yellow lab, Sandie.
I’ve been watching all of these recorded sermons since the “stay at home” direction was received and Session had to suspend gathering in person for our worship services. It is difficult to do so, because I’m sure that we all miss being with our church family members. However, these recorded sermons, by our guest minsters, have really been great. They help to fill a void that’s been left during these trying times. It’s not clear to me how many of us have taken time to listen or watch these sermon recordings, but I want to express my own gratitude for the effort put into these sermons by each of our guest ministers. Absent these sermons, the void would be much deeper, and more difficult to bear.
A special thanks to our Music Director Teri, and members of Starr Cross, for the musical contributions to these online services. It has really added something special to each Sunday.
And finally, thanks to our Office Administrator Kristen, for taking time to pull everything together and get it posted to our website. Great teamwork!
Peace and grace to all. I really hope to see you all soon.
